I've done it up in homespun Halloween colors and glued to a paper mache cone form.  The inside is hollow.

 This rag tree measures 8 1/2 inches tall.  

I've done it in Homespun Autumn colors glued to a 6 inch styrofoam cone shape.

I've attached a wooden thread spool trunk base and painted it black.
