 This is a smaller version of the Santa Star Make-Do / Large

Pattern by Homespun From The Heart

Santa and star are made from muslin which has been stuffed with polyester filling.

The star has been color washed in gold paint and mica flakes have been added to the tips of the star.

Santa is lightly stained and has beads for eyes, which are sewn on.

His nose is sculpted and his beard is wool that I've attached with a felting needle.

His hat is made from homespun and I've sewn a rusty bell  onto the tip.

Santa is attached to a wooden candlestick that I painted black and lightly distressed.
 Make-do measures 12 1/2 inches high.

The witch hat measures 16 inches high.

On one side of the hat is a nest of Spanish moss and a prim crow.

On the other side  is some prim silk leaves, small fabric prim pumpkin, putka pods and Fall artificial picks.

Stained cheesecloth band is wrapped around the brim and a rusty star is attached.  Some Sweet Annie is tucked into the band.

Another Spanish moss nest and crow is attached to the top of the witch hat.

Santa is attached to a wooden candlestick that I painted black and lightly distressed.

Mom's Nutmeg Cake

My younger sister Donna called me last night to get our Mom's nutmeg cake recipe.  YUM, I haven't made it in quite some time, but now I HAVE to, my mouth is watering for it and it's only 9:30 am!!!
This cake is too good not to share.  It is NOT a moist cake, but what you put on top makes up for it, and the cake also tastes yummy without anything on top at all, with a cup of coffee, tea or milk.
 
NUTMEG CAKE 
1 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1 c. buttermilk**
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla pinch of salt
**substitute for buttermilk:  add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar OR lemon juice to measuring cup.  Then add your milk to fill line.  Let stand 5 minutes before using.

Topping
1 boxes of vanilla or banana pudding ( We always used the kind you cook but you can certainly use instant).
Slice up 2 bananas and mix with pudding.  Just spoon as much as you like over each cut piece of cake.  I come from a family of 9 so we always made at least 2 packages of pudding and added more banana.
